Andrew Ritz

I am a Native Speaker from England living in Poland since 1995. When I first moved to Poland I worked in industrial and academic institutions. Later, I became more involved with teaching and taught English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at private schools. Now I concentrate on teaching English and business communication skills.

I am a qualified Ergonomist (see the definition below) and a senior fellow of the European Human Factors Society. Ergonomists look at language as a cognitive skill which changes the way languages are taught and assessed in the classroom. From an Ergonomists point of view the acquisition of good Communication and Language Skills (CLS) is essential for individuals who want to take part in the high-tech organizations and systems that exist today. An individual needs good CLS to help him/her develop mental processes such as perception, attention, cognition and collaboration so that he/she can take part in tasks such as diagnosis, decision making, innovation, project management and planning. An Ergonomics background therefore puts me in an ideal position to teach English language communication, organisational and cognitive skills to individuals and groups.

The Discipline of Ergonomics

Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.

Ergonomists contribute to the design and evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments and systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities and limitations of people.
