Lektor Michael Antkowiak (Wrocław) język: English
Personal Information
Hello! Some general background info: I grew up in NYC and later in New Jersey. I am 100% American (both a good and bad thing...) but my family is originally Polish, hence the last name, and I learned to speak Polish at a semi-fluent level. I have been living in Wroclaw for about 5 years now and plan on staying here for a long time.
Before teaching I was a logistics manager at a small telecommunications company in the US. After moving to Poland I became interested in teaching English and step by step started building up my career as a teacher, working in different schools, companies and giving numerous private lessons. Although I am now a full-time translator in Polish/English, I still enjoy enjoying teaching and am always looking for interesting opportunities.
What's relevant:
- Graduated with a B.A. in History/Political Science from Rutgers University 2006
- University of Cambridge CELTA, International House Wroclaw, 2008
- Thousands of hours teaching private individuals, in schools and companies
- Qualities: extremely personal, animated, flexbile, outgoing and business-oriented
If you are looking for a dynamic and personable teacher, who has no trouble with any subject or vocabulary, and one who knows his English grammar, I feel you found the right person. As of now I only travel to my student's home or business. My starting price is 70zl for 60 min for basic English lessons, which primarily focus on communication and speaking and of course on what you, the student, wants to learn. Most lessons are grounded in vocabulary and grammar practice, but my emphasis was, has and will always be on speaking.
I can gladly help you with any real-life scenarios you experience, for example, I have taught an airline pilot who wanted to attend a piloting course in England, a business executive who works with American clients from Texas and needed lots of practice with idioms and metaphors, or with architects who needed experience with how to approach and negotiate with foreign clients.
In addition to teaching I specialize in translating, proofreading or copyediting any and all documents from Polish to English (and only from Polish to English as that's what I am an expert in), including:
- Court documents (transcripts, briefs, appeals, etc)
- Marketing materials
- Resumes/CVs and motivational letters
- Master's and Doctoral theses
- Academic texts of varying subjects, including medicine, environmental science, economics and other
I have translated/proofread hundreds of documents, and am currently the head translator for the Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego in Wroclaw.
Please note, I am not a Certified Translator (Tlumacz przysiegly).
Hobbies/interests? Too many to list. Just to give you an idea, I enjoy anything from history, politics, economics, anything about cars, and enjoy (or enjoyed) building models, traveling, grilling hamburgers, cycling, scootering...
Sports, I've tried almost everything but my one and only passion is alpine snowboarding. I've been snowboarding for 17 years and will never stop. You can find me carving hard in Poland or the Czech Republic, my favorite hills around here are: Cervena Voda, Spindleruv Mlyn, Herlikovice, Kouty nad Desnou, Filipovice and in Poland: Czarna Gora and Zieleniec. And of course anywhere in the Alps :)
